While they really only got up to 6th due to the red flag during the first pit cycle, that allowed them to change to the medium tires, they were able to keep pace and not lose spots once the race resumed. Given their pace during practice, I was concerned that they would have dropped back once the race got back underway but that damn Grosjean was able to keep that Haas in the top ten and held on to 6th after pit stops by the Toro Rosso bunch and holding off the Hulk and Bottas. Definitely consider this a win for the team and if they can keep the car reliable, minimize pit mistakes (since they still haven’t completed a live pit stop), and massage on the car, they should have no issues scoring more points as the season wears on.
Also, if this race is any indication of the season, Merc is going to have a fight from Ferrari this year. Hell, even Toro Rosso seems to have the pace to grab a podium or two during the year if this first race wasn’t a fluke.
